| Washing and picking | Washing your fleeces involves one or two washes in hot water and soap, plus two rinses. Only very clean fibres with LOW vegetable material amounts will be accepted. Please skirt the fleeces beforehand. No harsh chemicals are used to "burn out" the VM. The washed fleece is dried naturally on a drying rack, then given a "rest" for 24 hours before running it through a picker. Picking the fleece opens up the lockes to prepare for carding or can be spun directly from the fluffy lockes. | $5.00 per lb |
| Carding | The cost includes washing, picking and carding and is based on the finished product weight (which will be much less than the raw fleece weight). I still need to purchase an upgraded, cottage industry carder, so I can't give you the specifics on what the dimensions of the finished product will be. The carders I'm looking at right now produce either 36 inch long batts (width varies between 12 inches and 18 inches) for felting or quilting, or 25 foot long roving for easy spinning. | $10.00/lb based on finished weight |
| Blending | This is still a tentative addition. Blending in other fibres while carding, such as alpaca, silk, angora, mohair or blending in other colours to make an interesting, blended product. The cost is only for blending. The cost of the fibre, if not supplied, is extra - see the processed wool page for what fibres are available. | $1.00/lb |
